Opuwo Country Lodge - Luxury Accommodation in Kaokoland
Opuwo means "finished" or "up to here and no further" Opuwo is the gateway to Kaokoland, the small town is the administrative hub of the Kunene Region. It has a few shops, filling station, a school and houses. There is a gravel airfield in town from where guests can be collected while staying over for a night or two - co-ordinates are 18 2' 40.2" Latitude 13 49' 59.9" Longitude. Opuwo Country Lodge is situated on a hilltop just outside of town and provides luxury and standard accommodation with air conditioning, swimming pool, bar and restaurant, and camping sites, it's the ideal base from where to explore Kaokoland. The lodge is within easy reach of Kaoko-Otavi, Epupa Falls and Swartbooisdrift Road conditions between Kamanjab and Opuwo are in excellent condition (tarmac).The remaining 85km gravel road to Ruacana is also in an excellent condition.
The 28 luxury rooms consist of 21 Twins, 1 luxury double room and 3 sets of inter-leading twin rooms (6 rooms) and 12 standard twin rooms. All the rooms have air conditioning and en-suit shower, toilet with complimentary amenities.
Deck chairs and umbrellas set the scene for a relaxed day around the pool or cool off after a hard day's drive. Next to the pool is the Bar and Restaurant where guests can crack a cold one and enjoy mouth-watering meals, a private lounge and wine cellar in the upstairs loft that provides a relaxing atmosphere and place to enjoy an evening with friends.

Special prior arrangements can be made for honeymooners, anniversaries and birthdays, as well as private dinners, snack baskets and cakes.The lodge has 24 hours electricity (220 volts).
Children of all ages are welcome and are required to be accompanied by their parents at all times.
Camping at Opuwo Country Lodge:
The campsite is also situated on the hill, approximately 500m away from the lodge.
The 12 large have 220v electricity (24 hours), ablution facilities with hot and cold water, each with barbeque area and a communal wash up facility.
Meet the Himba people of Kaokoland with our guide / interpreter on an excursion to a traditional Himba village. Interact and photograph one of the last remaining nomadic tribes of Africa. You will have time to ask questions while your guide answers and explains the Himbas intricate traditions, customs and beliefs.
Private Himba excursions must be booked in advance to give the lodge prior notice for the allocation of vehicles and guides.

Pick-up at Opuwo run way at approximately 11:00 by Hotel transfer.
Arrive at Opuwo Country Hotel for a welcome drink and toilet stop. Depending on your time of arrival we can serve lunch before or after the Himba village excursion which normally takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. For the pilot we have a complimentary day room available whilst clients are on the excursion, alternatively he can join the excursion. Transfer back to the Opuwo airstrip at 14:30 for your return flight.
Kindly note: Duration of Himba drive will depend on your time of arrival, as your departure time is stipulated. Late arrival will result in a shorter excursion.
Minimum of two guests per excursion is required.
Epupa Falls Excursion - (Not recommended during the rainy season months from Dec to April)
After breakfast at Opuwo Country Hotel, depart 08:00 from hotel in a 4x4 Condor vehicle. The drive will take approximately three hour to reach Chief Kapika's village. After your visit you continue to Epupa Falls, which is 35km further ahead. Picnic lunch packs are provided for the excursion and can be enjoyed on the bank of the Kunene River while watching the Epupa Falls.
Return to the lodge before sunset.

Ruacana Falls Excursion (All year activity)
The dramatic 85m Ruacana waterfall was once a natural wonder, but all that changed when Angola's Calueque Dam, 20km upstream, and NamPower's Ruacana hydro power plant was built to generate electricity. When there's a surfeit of water, Ruacana returns to its former glory as one of the most spectacular sights on the continent.
The waterfall is 120m (390 feet) high and 700m (2,300 feet) wide in full flood. It is among the largest waterfalls in Africa, both by volume and width.
The falls can be visited throughout the year.If the water is not enough for the Calueque Dam to open up, the falls and river scenery still remain a wonderful sight.
